Stop: Take a time out at Hifi's Coop to browse our local design boutique, meet people, and work on projects.

Shop: The retail shop features clothing & accessories for men, women and kids designed and/or made in Hawaii by Hifi members.

Sew: Bring the projects that are piling up at home and knock them out among other creatives, listening to music and doing your thing. Or start from scratch. Make something with your hands and give it away or wear it yourself.

Studio time is $8/hr for members $10/hr for non-members

Seeing straight lines is a beautiful thing. And so is making unique gifts for your friends and family. Learn and practice sewing basics: skills, vocabulary & machine confidence, while creating this zippered pouch. Some previous sewing experience is helpful but not necessary.

All class supplies will be provided.
If you prefer to learn on your own machine, you may bring it with you.

A sweater or jacket is recommended.

DIY SEWING 101 - The Series (24 May 2012)

Welcome to a modern take on Home Ec. Learn as you go!
Spend 4 Thursday evenings at the Coop with Uakea, a seamstress and stay-at-home mom. Familiarize yourself with sewing basics: skills, vocabulary, & machine confidence. Learn to decode Do-It-Yourself sewing tutorials. Gain confidence with this useful skill, reuse household items and take home at least 1 completed project each week. The class is designed so you can move ahead to other projects if you're ready. Some previous sewing experience is helpful but not necessary.

Supply List: please feel free to recycle what you already have:
*   a dish towel
*   1 XL shirt (any size larger than you will work)
*   2 t-shirts to cut up
*   And a sweater or jacket to keep warm while working.

All other supplies will be provided. If you prefer to learn on your own machine, you may bring it with you.

COOP/Photo Studio Volunteer Workday (30 May 2012)

Help Hifi get our photo studio ready for action! If you're one of the many photographers, stylists, and models waiting to take advantage of our affordable, private studio space for your shoot, come on down and help it become a reality.

Here are some of the tasks we'll be tackling:

Painting the photo studio walls and floor
Cleaning photo studio windows and organizing supplies
Replacing light bulbs in the workroom/retail space
Setting up photo equipment/lighting mounts
Hauling out junk
Organizing and labeling fabrics & notions in workroom

If you come get your hands dirty with us, you'll be justly rewarded. Hifi members will receive 6 hours of free photo studio time OR 8 hours of workspace time. Non-members will receive a FREE Hifi Professional Membership! Must commit at least 3 hours of volunteer time, first come first serve.

What is the Wahine Incubator Workshop?
Are you launching something new or need help taking your existing business, project, or idea to the next level? If you're feeling stuck, or need help getting your ideas out of your head and into the world, you will find the Incubator process to be:

• Your own personal think tank, focus & accountability group.
• Create FORWARD MOVEMENT toward attaining your goals.
• Expand your vision and zero in on what really needs to happen.

The Wahine Incubator Workshop is a 4-week workshop that meets 3-hours/week and will help you expand and clarify your projects and ideas in order to take your business to the next level. Ideas need support and action in order to thrive and grow and the Incubator will help you to cultivate your dreams.

The workshop is equal parts focus group, resource-sharing, support, community, and strategic business planning. You can't really imagine it until you experience it, but the magic just happens. During the workshop, you will complete a fun and creative series of exercises for yourself and for each other, and discover the profound bond women traveling down their own paths share. You'll leave with a wider vision than you ever new was possible, new branding ideas, and a plan of action to take things to the next level!

Danielle Scherman holds the space for women to share their creative and personal visions with each other, and ultimately, with themselves! Sculpting, Moulding and Life Casting with David Willis - MODULE 1 (21 Jun 2012)

Hifi is delighted to host David Willis at the Coop. David is currently the head makeup and designer for Universal Studios in Singapore. He brings years of experience & enthusiasm to Honolulu.

This is a full 4 day class; each session is 8-9 hours of hands-on practice, lecture and demonstration. See below for registration information and FAQs.

Also open to artists.

Students will learn, through various sculpture techniques and materials, how to create realistic character appliances, with the goal being to change the features through subtlety and form. Students learn about wrinkles, pore textures and facial anatomy structure. Using understanding about anatomy, you'll create basic appliances that move naturally with the actor's features and expression.

Life casting will be shown in a basic form to demo easy, quick, safe and cost effective ways to create life casts as a base form for any costume or makeup effect creation.

Module 1 - Price $750 US (Deposit - $400)
4 full days (32 hours)

DO I NEED TO BE A MAKE UP ARTIST TO ATTEND EITHER MODULES?
You need to be a make up artist or student of makeup to attend the second week classes ( module 2)
Module 1 is available for all artists and makeup artists interested in sculpting, moulding and life casting.

ARE MATERIALS PROVIDED ?
All materials for both modules are provided for all that attend. In the 2nd week class I ask makeup artists to bring their make-up kits to all classes.

Will I get a certificate at the end of each Module?
YES.

I am a body painter but I am very interested in doing both modules, can I attend?

Hifi is delighted to host David Willis at the Coop. David is currently the head makeup and designer for Universal Studios in Singapore. He brings years of experience & enthusiasm to Honolulu. Learn how to perfect your FX makeup for HD application and to create characters using premade prosthetic pieces and transfers.

This class is designed for all artists (new or experienced) that wish to either learn more in airbrush application, basic makeup FX application, and character makeup application.

This is a full 4 day class; each session is 8-9 hours of hands-on practice, lecture and demonstration. You'll learn the limitations of various products through a non-biased approach from David.

June 28 - July 1: Module 2
